Facilities

Overview

The Integrated Arts Media Labs are a dedicated digital arts education and production environment specifically for students in the Faculty of Fine Arts. The Labs consist of three facilities:

  • the Integrated Arts Media Lab (a.k.a. Main Lab, IAML) in AB 659
  • the NBC Universal Multimedia Laboratory (a.k.a. Small Lab, NUML) in AB 605
  • the Collaboration / Presentation / Installation (CPI) Space in AB 611.

A fourth room, AB 606 (formerly AB 605D/E), is also under the auspicies of the Labs, and is designated as a secondary CPI space.

Note: The Faculty of Fine Arts (now the Faculty of Arts) took over management of the two CPI spaces in 2007 and assigned them to other uses, so they are not available for CPI. Please ask your professor or Lab staff for suggestions for alternate CPI space.

Hardware

The Main Lab houses 20 workstations, each equipped with a Mac computer (Mac Pro, Mac mini, or iMac), an 88-key MIDI keyboard and a 23" or 24" Art-grade display or Dual 20" displays. The NBC Universal Multimedia Lab features 10 Mac Pro workstations with full 88-key MIDI keyboards and the possibility for multi-channel audio presentations.

Other hardware available includes large- and medium-format colour inkjet printers, flatbed and film scanners, digital audio recorders, digital video camcorders, drawing tablets and DVD/CD burners. See the Services portion of the web site for more details.

Software

We offer a full range of creative production and educational software, including video editing (e.g., Final Cut Studio), 2D graphics (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite), 3D modelling & animation (e.g., Cinema 4D), motion graphics and animation (e.g., Motion, iStopMotion), CAD (e.g., Vectorworks), music/audio sequencing (e.g., Logic Pro, GarageBand), music notation (e.g., NoteAbility Pro, Finale), and interaction design & authoring (e.g., Max/MSP/Jitter, Isadora).
